Former Police Union president threatens to sue over alleged missing pay

The former president of the Queensland Police Union has threatened to sue his former workplace over alleged unpaid entitlements.

The former president of the Queensland Police Union (QPU) has threatened to sue his former workplace over alleged unpaid entitlements.

A legal dispute between Ian Leavers and the Queensland Police Union has surfaced in which the former president alleged entitlements including holiday leave, time in lieu for weekend work and superannuation were not paid to him.

Mr Leavers sensationally resigned from his role as QPU president in August 2024 which he held for 15 years, before taking up the new role of cross-border commissioner.

In a statement provided to The Courier-Mail, current QPU President Shane Prior confirmed the matter and said it was handled by their lawyers.

“Ian Leavers achieved many things for police during his tenure at the Queensland Police Union.

“This was an internal matter that was being handled by our lawyers and I can only assume someone has passed these details on in an attempt to embarrass the Cross Border Commissioner.

“On the basis of the information we have, we’ve assessed our liability and paid what we consider was owing to Mr Leavers. It’s what our members would expect,” Mr Prior said.

Mr Leavers was contacted for comment.
