A 79-year-old man has died and a 17-year-old boy was critically injured in separate accidents on opposite sides of Brisbane on Sunday.

A 79-year-old man has died and a 17-year-old boy was critically injured in separate accidents on opposite sides of Brisbane on Sunday.

Police say the elderly man was crossing the road on David Trumpy Bridge at North Ipswich just after 2.30pm when he was hit by a car.

The man, from Ipswich, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The driver involved, an 85-year-old man, was not hurt and was helping police with their inquiries.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area is urged to come forward.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Hours later a 17-year-old boy was left fighting for life after a serious crash at Ferny Grove in Brisbane’s northwest, after the vehicle he was travelling in plunged down an embankment

Police said the crash, which involved two other 17-year-old boys, occurred on Lanita Rd just before 7pm.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the one of the youths was being treated for critical injuries and the other two were transported to hospital in stable conditions for minor injuries.

The crash was cleared by 8.30pm.

Investigations are continuing.
