A clinical researcher has turned her scientific mind to serving up gelato and sorbet in her new 1950s-themed Noosa Junction business.

Owner Christine Logan was partly inspired to open The Scoop 4567 by her mother who she called the original hot fudge sundae queen.

Ms Logan said her mum sprang to her mind every time she ate a sundae and that her niece had bought two Mr Whippy vans in her native United States so the ice cream love ran through the family.

“She was an amazing woman and single-handedly raised eight kids,” the business owner said of her mum.

“I get my drive and enthusiasm from her.”

The Sunshine Beach resident said she still worked as a clinical researcher during the day and then dressed up in her best 1950s costumes and turned on the jukebox at night to sell ice cream in the retro store she opened in April.

The business owner has already had Elvis impersonator Mark Andrew Tabone perform in her store and has plans for more music nights.

The ice cream shop offers traditional flavours like bubblegum or honeycomb and more exotic ones like a salted lime sorbet.

“The pistachio and rum raisin are people who need their flavour,” she said.

“They head home if we don’t have it.”

The menu is straight from yesteryear with spiders, traditional hot fudge sundaes, scoops in waffle cones, banana splits and more on offer.

She decided to open in the Noosa Junction when she noticed a few empty storefronts and lots of restaurants but no sweet treat option.

The shop owner also offers her space up for events and photo shoots.

Ms Logan said she had no trouble finding staff because most of her employees were high-schoolers.

The business owner said her aim at The Scoop was a fun atmosphere with great service.

“It’s nice to see families come in, and older folks and just to enjoy that simplicity of life,” Ms Logan said.

“Ice cream is something everyone can enjoy.”
