NOOSA was a sea of colourful rainbows over the weekend but there was not a dark cloud or drop of rain in sight.

The annual Rainbow River Festival brought an abundance of colour, fun, music and dancing to the region.

Lesley Pantlin is the founder of the LGBTI+ group Rainbow Noosa and she was extremely proud of how well the Noosa community embraced the festival.

“It’s the premium LGBTI event in the Noosa area,” she said.

“It really was a ripper event.”

The Noosa festival coincided with the internationally acclaimed Sydney Mardi Gras Parade.

Now in its ninth year, the Noosa Rainbow River Festival boasts a strong following and has quickly become a must-do LGBTI pride event.

Ms Pantlin believes there is no reason why the Noosa event can’t rival that of its southern counterpart.

“I think it would be good for Noosa,” she said.

“It would work with tourism.

“A lot of international visitors come to the Sydney event. If we could piggyback off that it would be great.”

The three-day Noosa celebration attracted partygoers from all directions and revellers had to be quick to book in for the popular events.

“I wanted to go to the drag queen bingo but it was completely sold out,” Ms Pantlin said.

From the opening night sunset cocktails to Sunday’s rainbow river cruise, there was something for everyone to come together and celebrate this popular pride event.

The M.V. Catalina Noosa was the river-bound venue for the cruise.

The boat certainly looked the part, with rainbow-coloured flags, streamers and a pink flamingo proudly emblazoned on the front.

Passers-by offered their encouragement from the river’s edge.

“People waved and hooted,” Ms Pantlin said.

“There was one ripper little boat covered in rainbow stuff.”
