Coast company in line for $3.7m playground build

A Sunshine Coast company is expected to win a lucrative contract over two Brisbane firms for a major multimillion dollar council project.

The Noosa Council is set to move ahead with its adventure playground in Cooroy.

Rosemount-based company Aspect Contractors is in the box seat to win a $3.76 million contract to build and maintain one of Noosa's most ambitious council projects.

Noosa Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday morning to award the tender for a nature-based adventure playground in Cooroy.

Aspect has been recommended as the top pick of council project officer Paul Brennan.

The Sunshine Coast company is competing with Brisbane-based companies Naturform and Eureka Landscapes for the work.

Mr Brennan said the playground was to be constructed in Maple St with an associated 56 space carpark and raised crossing.

The carparking construction has a budget of more than $500,000 which will form part a separate tender.

Noosa councillors last week at another special meeting voted unanimously to approve the council's playground and parking development applications despite this site being a flood-prone area.

Council planners recommended a flood warning alert system and special playground redesigns as part of approval conditions.

If successful, Aspect will be aiming to start work as soon as next month with a likely completion date of December.

Mr Brennan said the council and its legal consultants had designed a project delivery model to minimise ratepayers' financial risk.

"Council will maintain the overall project management role," he said.

"Specialist architectural and engineering consultants, appointed by the contractor, will progressively inspect the works to ensure project objectives and approval conditions are met," Mr Brennan said.

The project is valued at $5.9 million in total with almost $2.8 million in State Government grant funding to leave the council paying out $3.1 million.

The developments come after the council last month awarded the construction tender for the new Peregian Beach Community House and surrounding landscaping to national builder Kane Constructions.

Council community services director Kerri Contini said Kane had extensive resources which would ensure the project could be completed within the tight time frames and budget.

"Their use of local subcontractors will provide much-needed local economic outcomes," Ms Contini said.
