One of Noosa's best loved eateries Bistro C is looking to serve up a new look with a smart, contemporary makeover.

Noosa Council planners are recommending approval of proposed major changes to the Hastings St diner run by Lorri Banks and her family.

It will be out with the old at Bistro C if it's makeover wins council approval.

Ms Banks was contacted but declined to comment until after Noosa councillors made their decision.

A council report said the new works would refurbish the existing enclosed dining area overlooking Main Beach with the removal and replacement of the existing structure.

Instead Bistro C would present with slimline glass retractable doors at ground level with an overhead awning.

Conditions of the proposed approval include retaining the existing pandanus trees within the raised garden beds.

"The minor change application is seeking a retrospective approval for the enclosure of the area, which was originally approved as an open terrace/dining," the council planning report said.

The report said the bistro's existing entry area was used for outdoor dining without council approval.

Council planners see the makeover as consistent with the bulk and scale of buildings within the area.

"The proposal will replace an existing unapproved structure with an attractive and contemporary design, revitalising the dated facade," the report said.

The overall result is considered a high quality and "interesting streetscape" with visually appealing landscaping.

If approved, Bistro C would have to provide a financial contribution to council in lieu of carparking.
