Covid Queensland: Premier announces no new cases as vaccination rates increase in regions

Queensland has recorded no new Covid cases overnight as a ‘significant jump’ in regional vaccinations has helped the state reach 70.5 per cent fully vaccinated.

Queensland has recorded no new cases of Covid-19 as vaccination rates continue to climb.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there were now 82.2 per cent of Queenslanders with a single dose and 70.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Ms Palaszczuk revealed the regions which recorded a significant jump in the vaccination rate over the past week.

She said Mackay’s vaccination rate increased 4.5 per cent while Central Queensland bounced 4.1 per cent and North West Queensland grew 4 per cent.

Cairns’ vaccination rates increased 3.5 per cent.

Ms Palaszczuk said more than 100 schools would again host vaccination clinics this weekend.

At least 67 schools including Kelvin Grove State College, Home Hill State High School and Hervey Bay State High School will throw open their gates this Saturday.

It comes after 58 schools opened last weekend.

Ms Palaszczuk said the Super Schools weekend was about bringing the vaccine closer to people.

“We know a lot of people still have questions,” she said.

“All I ask is that they talk to trusted professionals like their GP or pharmacist or the health staff at our vaccination clinics.

“I am sure that they can put their minds at rest.”

This list is expected to grow throughout the week.
