Man injured jumping on to freight train at Hemmant station

A young man is fighting for life after being struck by a freight train at a Brisbane suburban station, when he is believed to have attempted to jump on to a moving carriage.

A young man is fighting for life after being struck by a freight train at a Brisbane suburban station, when he is believed to have attempted to jump on to a moving carriage.

The man, in his 20s, was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Sunday afternoon with a life-threatening head injury after he was hit by the train at Hemmant station.

The incident happened about 3pm, with the man unresponsive on the station platform when ambulance officers arrived.

It is believed he tried to jump on board but the train was passing through the station without stopping.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital in a critical condition.
