Man arrested over alleged horrific 16-month rape and torture

A horrific domestic violence offender has been arrested on arrival at Brisbane Airport after allegedly raping and torturing his victim for more than a year.

A horrific domestic violence offender has been arrested after allegedly raping and torturing his victim for more than a year.

Detectives arrested and charged the 46-year-old man on October 15 when he flew into Brisbane Airport.

Police will allege between June, 2023, and October this year the man committed a number of domestic violence offences including rape, torture, deprivation of liberty, multiple assaults, and extreme coercive and controlling behaviours towards his victim north of Brisbane.

The man was charged with three counts each of rape and common assault, and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm, and breach of domestic violence order.

Police arrested the man at Brisbane Airport.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Jones said domestic and family violence (DFV), and sexual violence (SV), have no place in Queensland.

“We have zero tolerance for any person who thinks they are above the law and carries out these abhorrent acts,” Sergeant Jones said.

“Anyone who is found to be committing these offences will be met with the full force of the law.

“We will not relent in our efforts to empower our community to recognise the signs of DFV, intervene safety and support victim-survivors effectively.

“I want to reassure any victim-survivor of this type of offence that you are not alone, and that there are support services available to you.”

The man was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 18.

The operation follows the establishment of new DFV and SV teams in North Brisbane CIB’s to crack down on offences and better support victim-survivors.
