For the first time since 2016, the town of Glenden will light up for its rodeo this coming Saturday, with a pair of local Mackay brothers set to take it on.

The Pearson brothers, Clinton (17) and Cooper (9) will compete alongside a host of other competitors when the event kicks off on the weekend, with it being the first opportunity that either of them has had to compete at this event.

“There’s been a few events nearby that have come back, the more the better I reckon,” Clinton said.

“It’s come around pretty quick and we’re excited for it.”

Clint has been a cowboy for a number of years, having recently returned from competing over in the United States.

The brothers are eager to take on the first Glenden rodeo in eight years.

“I try to compete just about every weekend if I can, I love it,” he said.

“I’m looking to work my way up into the higher divisions when I can, right now in Australia I normally compete in the novice or second division.”

His desire to keep competing takes him to a lot of different places, as he said he’s had to trek as far as Mareeba, Blackwater and Clermont in rural Queensland for a chance to compete.

“It’s kind of all over the place really, but I just love it, it lights a fire in me,” Clinton said.

As for the younger of the pair, Cooper said his brother was a key influence in his desire to compete in his own right.

“I don’t know a whole lot about it to be honest, you’d have to ask (my brother),” Cooper said.

“I really like the prize money, I don’t really spend it though.”

The rodeo is on from 3.30pm until 11.30pm AEST on Saturday
