A stretch of beach, a local reserve and a beachfront lookout are among potential locations as Slade Point residents get to have their say on a new off-leash dog park.

Council moved a motion on October 30 to develop a community consultation with the Slade Point community.

Now residents are asked to choose between a beach accessible from Swallow Street Park, Lamberts Beach Lookout Park, Cumberland Park and the last option between Wren Street Oval Park and the adjoining Swift Street Reserve.

The community consultation proposal was in response to a petition that was signed by 68 residents who voiced their concern over current off-leash dog parks in North and East Mackay, a fair distance away.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the move was aligned with the council’s vision of providing accessible spaces where residents and visitors can live.

“The project will provide a dedicated space where dog owners in Slade Point can exercise their pets off-leash within a safe and controlled environment,” Mr Williamson said.

Council will hold a community consultation session at Wren Street Oval Park in Slade Point on Tuesday, February 18, from 4pm to 6pm to discuss the options with residents.
