Blatant greed motivated an “utterly wicked” Whitsundays mother to sexually exploit her four-year-old son for the promise of $10,000.

She made multiple vile videos which she sent to a man in Brisbane she had met over social media and engaged in disturbing conversations about child abuse and exploitation.

The videos involved the 29-year-old mum committing sex acts on her young son, later downplaying her acts to police saying “ he wouldn’t have even noticed this was going on”, crown prosecutor Shannon Sutherland told Mackay District Court.

The “incomprehensible” crime came to light after specialist Taskforce Argos police raided the Brisbane man’s home in January 2023 and uncovered child exploitation material sent from the mother’s Snapchat account.

The court heard he had randomly added her and the pair began engaging in sexualised conversations.
“It was clear that it was perverted in nature and involved discussion of sexual acts you were being encouraged to engage in with your son,” Judge Gregory Lynham said, who labelled the offending “utterly wicked conduct which was clearly motivated by financial gain”.

When she was arrested in early 2023 she tried to tell police she had not really been committing the acts, only making it look like she had.

The court heard the woman and Brisbane man had discussed an amount of $10,000, which she had said was what she needed in relation to making some of the videos – she only received $100.

“Ordinarily it would not be expected that a mother of a young child would engage in such heinous and perverse sexual activity in respect of their child,” Judge Lynham said.

The court heard the videos showed the woman performing oral sex on her son and carrying out other sexual acts. This publication will not go into any further detail.

Judge Lynham said the offending coupled with the conversations with the man that included him making suggestions for what and the fact it was money motivated was “perverted to the extreme”.

“It is very difficult to imagine a more egregious breach of trust that any mother could engage in with their own child … your son was entirely dependant upon you for protection and nurturing

“You should be completely and utterly ashamed that you ever fell to the temptation to engage in his behaviour regardless of how desperate your financial circumstances might have been.”

The court heard she had also been abused when she was younger which Ms Sutherland said made the offending “even more incomprehensible”.

Barrister Scott McLennan said his client had turned to meth to deal with her troubled childhood and was also exposed to domestic violence over more than one relationship.

“It was a terrible act done for money,” Mr McLennan said, labelling it a double edged sword.

“Of course it’s reprehensible doing these things for money,” he said, adding that it also provided her motive that she was not attracted to children.

It was accepted she did not have paedophelic tendencies.

The court heard at the time she was heavily using marijuana and was “deeply ashamed and remorseful”.

“What your offending demonstrates is that you as a victim of sexual abuse have become effectively a perpetrator,” Judge Lynham said.

She was jailed for 3.5 years to be suspended after 14 months and she will be released on two years probation after it was determined it was in her and community interest to have ongoing supervision.

Convictions are recorded.
