Two men have been charged with stealing copper off mining equipment after a series of raids, but police say further arrests are on the horizon.

Moranbah detectives have alleged the two Dysart men, Shayne Martin, 43, and Brenton Soden, 57, stole copper and left damage to equipment at a Tieri mine site to the value of more than $500,000 between June 1 and June 10, 2024.

Several search warrants were issued on June 11 and both men are expected to face court.

Mr Martin was charged with stealing property valued above $5000 while Mr Soden was charged with the same charge, as well as receiving tainted property derived from a crime and producing dangerous drugs.

Detective Sergeant Sheldon Livingstone said ongoing investigations and further arrests in relation to property offences can be expected.

“We are committed to driving down theft and property offences within the Moranbah area and take these matters very seriously,” said Detective Sergeant Livingstone.

“We would like to thank members of the community for their assistance and urge anyone with information to contact police.”
