Delays in the case against a man charged over the alleged shooting murder of West Mackay mum Natalie Frahm have blown out into 2025.

The horror unfolded on Wednesday, June 19 when police allege Ryan Geoffrey Cole fatally shot his 34-year-old neighbour as she was sitting in the driver’s seat of her car with two young girls in the back.

Mr Cole, 31, is charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Police allege Ms Frahm had been in her car in her driveway on Robb Place about to take the girls to a sporting event when Mr Cole approached and shot her in the head and chest with a .22 pistol about 4.30pm.

Police allege the girls were able to run from the vehicle and sought help from James ‘Jimmy’ McGill, 66, who was nearby visiting his elderly mum at the time.

It is alleged Mr Cold shot Mr McGill, who was taken to Mackay Base Hospital, in a serious condition.

Following a three-hour manhunt, police took Mr Cole into custody about 7.45pm at the Paget KFC/BP service station.

The police investigation revealed there was nothing to suggest Mr Cole and Ms Frahm knew each other before the shooting.

On Tuesday the case was briefly mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court which heard Mr Cole remained in custody on remand.

He did not appear and was represented by Macrossan and Amiet Solicitor’s Steven Hayles.

Initially the police brief of evidence in Mr Cole’s case had been due in mid-September when the matter was listed for committal mention.

However, the case was brought on for a police application regarding an extension of time to deliver that brief of evidence.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan told the court the police application requested a new date after late March 2025 for “a number of different issues”.

These issues were not detailed in court.

Mr Hayles did not object to the delay.

The court heard he would also be given one month to read through the brief before the matter returned to court. A new date was listed for early May 2025.

Mr Cole’s appearance was not required for that day.

No bail application was made and no pleas have been entered.

Because Mr Cole is charged with murder, state law dictates he can only apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
