A young woman facing serious assault and weapons charges after a man was shot in the stomach has been warned she needed to sort out her legal representation immediately.

Police arrested and charged Tarni Maree Hinschen following an incident at Sarina on June 22, 2024 in which a man suffered a bullet wound to the stomach.

He was initially taken to Sarina Hospital in a serious condition before he was moved to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.

Police have recovered a rifle, which they allege was used in the shooting.

As a result police arrested and charged Ms Hinschen, a 22-year-old Proserpine woman, who is out on bail, while investigations into the incident continue.

Ms Hinschen is charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, deprivation of liberty and robbery with actual violence armed/in company/wounded, used personal violence.

It is alleged these offences occurred on June 22 at Sarina.

She is further charged with possessing a shortened firearm on June 25 and breaching bail on June 29.

Under Queensland’s weapons legislation, anyone convicted acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm faces life imprisonment.

Her matter was briefly mentioned on Wednesday when Mackay Magistrates Court heard Ms Hinschen was still awaiting legal representation.

The court heard she had not yet lodged her legal aid application.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer warned her this needed to be done immediately and adjourned the case until Friday to ensure it was.

Ms Hinschen’s appearance is required.
