Queensland paramedic faces Mackay court charged with child sex abuse, rape

A Queensland paramedic has been charged with more than 20 child sex abuse related charges and five counts of rape.

It is alleged the Queensland Ambulance Service employee committed the offences over dates spanning from 2001 to 2019.

The man appeared via videolink before Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday where solicitor Sean Gibbs, of Fisher Dore Lawyers, was successful in obtaining bail for his client, whose identity cannot legally be revealed for risk of identifying the alleged victim.

All 24 child sex abuse-related charges involve a child who was either related to or cared for by the man and include multiple counts of exposure, indecent filming, and procure to commit.

This publication contacted the Queensland Ambulance Service asking whether the paramedic was still working or whether he had been suspended while the matter was before the court.

It did not specify.

“If a matter involving a staff member is before a court, the Queensland Ambulance Service will decide the most appropriate action to be taken with consideration of the charges,” a QAS spokesman said.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

A committal hearing was scheduled for April.
