Mackay fatal crash: Police charge young woman over Mirani man Jamie Winn’s death

Police will allege a young driver was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol when her vehicle collided head on with a loving husband on his way to work.

A young Marian driver is accused of being under the influence of both alcohol and drugs when she allegedly slammed into motorbike rider and loving husband Jamie Winn causing his death.

The 35-year-old Mirani man had been on his way to work when the horror incident occurred about 3am on Sunday, October 29, 2023 in the Pioneer Valley.

As a result a 24-year-old woman has on Tuesday been charged with serious offences over the crash.

She is charged with dangerous driving causing death while adversely affected and driving while under the influence of liquor and a drug.

Anyone convicted of aggravated dangerous driving faces a maximum of 14 years jail.

The fatal crash occurred about 3.5km west of Marian on Mackay Eungella Rd.

Police allege the woman had been behind the wheel of a silver Toyota Corolla which had crossed into oncoming traffic and into the path of Mr Winn’s black Harley Davidson motorbike, colliding head on near the Peaches Rd intersection.

Mr Winn, who had been travelling to his job at Paget, tragically died at the scene.

Following his unexpected death shattered the Mackay region community with those close to him rallying around his widow Krissinda, who had Multiple Sclerosis. A GoFundMe campaign raised $11,750.

Photos of the vehicles as they were being towed from the scene show the significant damage to the Toyota.

The woman, who had been driving home from her job at the Railway Hotel, was taken to Mackay Base Hospital with facial and rib injuries.

She is further charged with possessing a dangerous drug and possessing drug utensils.

She is expected to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court in late February.
