Mackay mum facing horror rape, child sex allegations

A Queensland mum is accused of horror sex abuse charges — including against her own child.

The Mackay-based woman in her 50s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is facing 15 charges, 12 of which are related to child sex abuse allegedly committed in Far North Queensland.

The woman in her 50s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is facing 15 charges, 12 of which are related to child sex abuse allegedly committed in Far North Queensland.

She is charged with three counts each of rape and taking a child for immoral purposes, four counts of involving children in making child exploitation material and two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12 years old (procure to commit and expose).

She is further charged with deprivation of liberty, common assault and choking, all filed as domestic violence offences.

It is alleged the offending occurred between April 2011 and April 2013 in the Cairns region, but it is understood she now lived in the Mackay region.

She is currently on bail and pleas have not been entered.

Her case was briefly mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday when ATSILS solicitor Robin Cathcart requested leave to withdraw from the case.

The court heard her matter needed to be moved to Legal Aid Queensland.

The woman did not appear in court and her appearance was excused.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan adjourned the matter for three weeks and it will be mentioned later this month.
Ms Hartigan also gave Ms Cathcart leave to withdraw from the case.
