A Mackay man is accused of ramming a ute into another vehicle and firing a warning shot in the air in a wild chase on the outskirts of the city.

Parolee Jaiden Clint Whitehead is back in custody on remand after his freedom was stripped from him following allegations he committed a string of serious offences in West Mackay.

Police allege the 26 year old rammed his ute into another vehicle while the pair were travelling on Glenella Connection Rd at night on February 11, 2025.

It is further alleged at some point Mr Whitehead also fired a gunshot into the air.

“This was an isolated incident between two persons known to each other,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

“There is no cause for community concern as the alleged offender is in custody.”

Investigations led officers to a Proserpine property where Mr Whitehead was found and arrested on February 15 with help from other police units.

About half an ounce of meth, worth about $2500, and a quantity of cocaine and ammunition were also seized from the Proserpine address.

He is charged with eight offences including dangerous driving with a previous conviction (the court heard Mr Whitehead already had an entry on his criminal history for dangerous driving over an incident on Bedford Rd in June 2021).

He is also charged with threatening violence — discharging a loaded firearm with the intent to alarm another person at night and wilfully damaging another vehicle on February 11.

In relation to the drugs seized, Mr Whitehead is charged with aggravated meth possession, possessing meth and cocaine, and possessing a used glass pipe and ammunition.

He is further charged with a burglary and theft at Brightly in May 2024.

His case was briefly mentioned on Wednesday when Mackay Magistrates Court heard Mr Whitehead was on a return to prison warrant, meaning he could not apply for bail because his parole was being cancelled, and he was returned to custody.

When he appeared over videolink he asked, “Do I have anyone in the courtroom for me?”

Magistrates Bronwyn Hartigan told him “no”, explaining there had been people in court for him when the case was mentioned on Monday, but they had left on learning he was in hospital.

The court heard the aggravated drug possession would need to go to the Supreme Court.

The brief of evidence was ordered, and the case was adjourned to April for mention.
