Jack Michael Thomson, Kristen Lee Pulfer plead guilty to drug possession

A former steroid-using bodybuilder and his girlfriend who were charged in a police sting have been jailed over a ‘substantial’ amount of drugs.

Kristen Lee Pulfer and Jack Michael Thomson have been sentenced in Mackay Supreme Court for drug offending.

A former steroid abuser and his glamorous girlfriend have been jailed after police found a “substantial” amount of drugs in the North Mackay home they shared.

Kristen Lee Pulfer walked free on a wholly suspended jail term while her partner of at least three years Jack Michael Thomson will spend at least at least 12 months behind bars.

The couple were arrested in 2020 as part of police operation Romeo Suitcase targeting drug offending in the Mackay region.

On March 30 police raided Thomson’s home finding 119.45g pure MDMA in 166.12g of substance, 389g of marijuana, 205g of steroids, as well as cocaine and morphine, a cryovac vacuum sealing machine and empty bags, scales, a mobile phone, two .38 calibre revolvers, a silencer and a 23 calibre rifle.

Mackay Supreme Court heard Thomson had been intending to sell some or all of the MDMA and marijuana, but the remaining drugs and steroids were for his own personal use.

Kristen Lee Pulfer and Jack Michael Thomson were arrested in relation to police operation Romeo Suitcase targeting drug offences in the region.

“It’s quite plain that this was no accident that you were in possession of drugs, it didn’t arise out of inadvertence or carelessness or just whim,” Justice David North said, adding the quantity and items suggested “quite determined efforts” to sell drugs.

Thomson, 29, pleaded guilty to 13 charges including aggravated MDMA possession, as well as possessing steroids, marijuana, morphine, multiple weapons and drug paraphernalia.

Defence barrister David Funch said the commerciality stemmed from an addict “seeking to supplement their income to fund their own habit” and not a case of “pure greed”.

The court heard Thomson had previously used steroids in “such vast amount” as a bodybuilder “his body no longer naturally produces the hormone”.

Pulfer, 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated MDMA possession and possessing morphine and marijuana.

The couple has been jailed after a large amount of drugs were found at the home they share.

Defence barrister John Jacob said her plea was solely on the basis she lived at the home where the drugs were kept and knew they existed, but they belonged to Thomson.

“It was a bad decision she made at a young age in the early part of a relationship with an older man who was a drug user,” Mr Jacob said.

Justice North said the toleration of Thomson’s conduct “serves to give some … support or assistance to drug users”.

Both Thomson and Pulfer supplied negative drug test results to the court.

Thomson was jailed for five years and three months but Justice North determined he should serve well under the usual one third to reflect his cooperation with police and efforts towards rehabilitation.

Pulfer was jailed for 2.5 years, wholly suspended for three years.

Convictions were recorded.
