A man allegedly caught with drugs and weapons while trying to ‘recover’ his car has been told he won’t be getting his gun back in Mackay Magistrates Court.

Brendon Scott Gesler, arrested on Thursday night, applied for bail through lawyer Tahnee Wilkinson after a night in the watch-house, but police prosecutor Matt Saunders said there was no firm objection.

“He has limited (criminal) history,” Mr Saunders said.

“The concern that the police have is in relation to further offending and the further offending is in relation to allegations he wants to recover a motor vehicle.

“He had the shortened firearm, he won’t be getting that back.”

Adjudicating the matter via videolink from Rockhampton, magistrate Michael Byrne heard the prosecution was satisfied with Gesler’s bail address and required no reporting conditions.

Gesler is charged with possession of a shortened firearm, category D/H/R weapons, dangerous drugs, used drug utensils or pipes, and property suspected of being used in a drug offence.

Mr Byrne gave him bail on his own undertaking, noting for him to “treasure that bail Mr Gesler, because it’s very easy to lose”.

Gesler’s matters were adjourned to June 24.
