A young man accused of killing his six-month-old son nearly four years ago will face a trial in 2024 after several delays over expert evidence.

Ayden Jedd Bradshaw is charged with the murder of Beau Bradshaw who was found unresponsive at his East Mackay home on June 2, 2020 and died two days later.

Crown prosecutor Tiffany Lawrence told Mackay Supreme Court on Monday that while a final addendum report had been received and shared with the defence, new issues had arisen.

“I’ve had an opportunity to speak to Dr (Paul) Botterill, the forensic pathologist, this morning, and he’s indicated he would have capacity to look at that report this week to provide a response in respect of it,” Ms Lawrence said.

Though the specifics of the matters rising from the expert evidence were not detailed, the court heard the matter would be mentioned in Rockhampton court before Justice Grame Crow on April 8 to see what legal arguments may apply.

Justice Crow noted the trial “might need more than one week” to run its course and suggested dates in July or November when he had two week sittings.

Ms Lawrence said the Crown had no objection to either date and it was “not unrealistic” for disagreements on evidence to be cleared by then.

Yet she understood a July trial would pose a clash for Mr Bradshaw’s barrister Scott McLennan, who requested the trial be listed in November.

Justice Crow agreed there was “no pressing urgency” on the matter since Mr Bradshaw was on bail in the community.

Mr Bradshaw was arrested in mid 2022 and remained on remand until being granted bail in December 2022.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.

The murder trial was listed for November 4, 2024 and Mr Bradshaw’s bail enlarged accordingly.
