A man has been injured and his car destroyed after it went off road and crashed into a tree on Saturday.
A bystander reported the driver, a man in his 80s, was exiting from Glenella Fuels on Hill End Rd at approximately 11:20am.
A QAS spokeswoman said “it is suspected that he had a medical incident” prior to his car rolling down the hill, across Hill End Rd and onto the opposite footpath where it crashed into a palm tree.
Paramedics removed the elderly man from the car and treated him for facial injuries before transporting him to Mackay Base Hospital at 11:36am in a stable condition.
A senior police officer at the scene confirmed “the drivers age and medical condition may have been a factor” and investigations were ongoing.
The vehicle was towed from the scene at approximately 11:50am.
