Middlemount workplace incident: Man in critical condition

A contractor suffered critical head injuries when a machinery bucket struck him in the head near a road project in Central Queensland.

A contractor working on a council project is in hospital with serious head injuries after he was struck in the head at a worksite in Central Queensland.

An Isaac Regional Council worker at an intersection upgrade near Middlemount was struck in the head by a loader bucket at the job site about 9.30am.

A contractor, who working for the council on the Dysart Middlemount Rd and Tieri Rd intersection, came across the incident and reported it to authorities.

“The team member is in a serious but stable condition before being airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital by RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter,” a council spokesman said.

“Council is working with the contractor, Queensland Police and WorkSafe Queensland to mobilise an appropriate response as further details become available.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured team member.”

The worker, aged in his 30s, suffered critical head injuries in the incident.

Police and Queensland Ambulance paramedics responded to the incident.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokeswoman said the agency was aware of the incident and was “making further inquiries”.
