Mackay’s cheapest petrol station named as metro prices soar to 193 cents per litre

While southerners are slugged with ridiculous fuel prices nearing $2 a litre, Mackay motorists can revel in cheaper top ups. Here’s where to find the cheapest petrol in the region.

Brisbane hit with record petrol prices

The price of petrol across Queensland continues to soar with motorists paying top dollar to fill up their tanks.

While prices in the Mackay region have steadily increased in 2021, metropolitan customers are paying almost $2 per litre for unleaded petrol.

RACQ spokeswoman Kate Leonard-Jones said motorists were paying an all-time premium for petrol.

“We’ve seen fuel price records tumble across Queensland in the past month,” she said.

“This is due to global factors, as countries open up from Covid restrictions, international supply and demand issues have driven up oil prices leading to high terminal gate prices and high petrol prices.

“However, regional Queensland hasn’t been impacted as severely as the south east.”

Ms Leonard-Jones said fuel price cycles did not affect regional areas such as Mackay.

“The southeast is now entering the price hike phase in its fuel cycle, with many sites already bumping prices to a new high price of 193.9 cents per litre for unleaded,” she said.

“While prices in regional Queensland are expected to stabilise we’re unlikely to see any significant drop or hike in the cost of petrol in the lead up to Christmas.”
