Mackay, Moranbah some of the most expensive places to live

MORANBAH has ranked second and Mackay has ranked sixth when it comes to most expensive places to live in Queensland.

The latest index of retail prices has found life in the two mining towns is 22.2 and 6.3 per cent (respectively) more expensive than in Brisbane.

Mackay pays 20% more for housing than Brisbane while Moranbah pays 86.9% more.

While it costs Mackay residents 13.7% more for food and non-alcoholic beverages in comparison to Brisbane, it is 1.4% cheaper to buy the same items in Moranbah.

However Moranbah cop the brunt of costs when it comes to transportation and clothing.

Anything from fuel, mechanic charges to taxi fares costs Moranbah residents 13.7% more than Brisbane and clothing and footwear costs 31.4% more than Brisbane.
