A toddler has been mauled by a dog in a family home in Dysart, sparking an investigation into the terrifying incident.
The dog involved has been seized while Isaac Regional Council investigate what happened.
Paramedics were called to a residential address in the small rural town, 255km south-west of Mackay in the Isaac Region about 10.45am.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said a female toddler was bitten in the face and has “significant lacerations”.
The girl was taken to Dysart hospital before being taken to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.
An IRC spokesman said the council was investigating the incident which occurred on a private property.
He said the animal involved would be held in council’s care pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Council extends its thoughts to those affected and reminds all dog owners of their responsibility to ensure animals are properly contained and do not pose a risk to the community including to themselves and their children,” he said.
It is unknown what type of dog was involved in the incident.
