Mackay crash: Goldsmith St closed and two patients assessed following freak accident

A portion of street was shut down near the Mackay CBD after a pedestrian was reportedly hit by a car during a freak accident. Details.

A portion of Goldsmith St was closed near the Mackay CBD after a person was reportedly hit by a car.

A Queensland Police Services spokesman confirmed QPS responded to initial reports of a car crashing into a parked car, which then hit a pedestrian.

As a result, Goldsmith St was closed near the intersection with Evan St, with police on scene diverting traffic. The street was partially reopened just before 12.30pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed QAS was called to the incident at 11.41am.

It is understood a woman in her 70s was treated for chest pain, while a second patient was suffering back pain and a lower leg injury. Both patients were transported to Mackay Base Hospital.

It is believed a medical episode may have caused the crash.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman confirmed one crew arrived at the incident at 11.49am, and that there were no entrapments.

Along with the firetruck, two police vehicles, two QAS vehicles and three tow trucks were on scene.
