Paramedics attended a scene where a council dump truck was caught in a loose powerline west of Mackay shutting electricity off for hundreds of households in the area.

The power was cut off on Gargett Mia Mia Road in Septimus at around 5.50am when a loose 11,000 volt powerline hung over the road causing the truck to tangle itself.

An Ergon Energy spokesman, Danny Donald, says he expects power to be “shut off to 283 customers for the next four hours”.

The driver of the truck was taken out of the vehicle as QFD and Ergon Energy crew sought to cut off power lines which remained dead “but still charged”

More to come.
