A car has burst into flames in the middle of a South Mackay street, with the driver able to make a quick escape.

The Queensland Fire Department was called to Penn St just before 10am, arriving to find a car well aflame with a trailer attached.

Crews successfully put out the fire, which melted the paint off the doors into a metallic-looking slurry and burst the bonnet open into the windscreen.
Ambulance services were not called to the scene, and no one was injured.

Speaking at the scene, Sergeant Clinton Skillington confirmed that the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
