Two months after a fatal hit and run which left a 69-year-old dying by the roadside police have charged the man they believe was responsible.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Bootooloo Rd and Wheelers Ln in Bowen on Thursday, July 25, after a cyclist was found by a passing motorist at 4.42am.
The male cyclist, a 69-year-old Bowen man, died at the scene.
Police allege he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old — also from Bowen — who then fled instead of calling for help.
He has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm and left the scene of incident without obtaining help.
The 29-year-old is due to appear before Bowen Magistrates Court on October 1.
