A Mackay homeowner is frustrated after building faults

A MACKAY homeowner has spent the past six months trying to get the Queensland Building and Construction Commission to help him out.

A MACKAY homeowner has spent the past six months trying to get the Queensland Building and Construction Commission to help him out.

Ryan Stockwell-Jones had his dream home built but was left frustrated by a number of small problems.

"We bought this house, paid all the money and there's just a couple of problems, like drawers don't close properly, there's not even locks on the doors like there should be," he said.

"It just shouldn't be like this."

Mr Stockwell-Jones said they had lodged paperwork with the QBCC but were waiting for assistance.

"My Dad has rung them up and they've said, 'we are trying to get someone around there' but nothing has ever happened," he said.

"It is just taking forever, I just want them to come around and do what they said they were going to do, fix it up and then we'll be happy."

Mr Stockwell-Jones said although the faults were not major, "it was just annoying".

"You spend all this money on a home and you'd just hope everything would be proper," he said.

QBCC commissioner Steve Griffin said the commission was originally unable to direct the builder to rectify the issues.

"... the complaint was made after the time period in which the QBCC is permitted to direct a builder to (rectify the issues)," he said,

"However, upon receipt of this media enquiry, the QBCC has re-read the details of the claim and determined that the door and drawer items should be reassessed for eligibility for rectification under the QBCC Home Warranty Scheme."
