King’s Birthday 2024 trading hours: What’s open on Monday, October 7

It’s the King’s Birthday public holiday in Queensland today. Here is your guide to what’s open, what’s closed and what impact there will be to train, bus and ferry services.

What is better than an NRL Grand Final? A public holiday the day after to ease aching heads and offer options for guilt-free Mad Monday celebrations.

Whether you’ll be commemorating the Monarch’s arbitrary birth date or sleeping in after finals footy celebrations, the October public holiday should be a great way to start the week.

But, as with all public holidays, some plans could be scuppered by the closure of shops or reduced public transport services, so we have compiled a list of what will still be open on the day.

Shopping centres

■ Westfield North Lakes, Garden City, Carindale and Chermside will trade from 10am – 4pm

■ Westfield Coomera will trade from 10am – 4pm

■ Westfield Helensvale will trade from 10am – 5:30pm

■ Pacific Fair Shopping Centre will trade from 10am – 6pm

■ DFO Brisbane will trade from 10am – 6pm

■ Harbour Town Gold Coast will trade from 10am – 5pm

■ Queens Plaza: 10:30am – 4pm

■ Macarthur Central: 10:00am – 4:00pm

■ Aspley Hypermarket, Sunnybank Plaza: 9:00am – 6:00pm

*Individual store trading hours may vary.

■ Uptown (previously The Myer Center): 10:00am – 5:00pm

*Individual store trading hours may vary.

■ Indooroopilly Shopping Centre: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Please note that some retailers may have different trading hours on the day.

Supermarkets

Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and IGA may be open at reduced hours depending on individual stores and shopping centres.

Bottle shops

Liquorland, BWS and Dan Murphy’s may be open at reduced hours depending on individual stores and shopping centres.

Public transport

South East Queensland services will be affected. Make sure to plan your journey ahead of time.

Bus

Most bus services will run to a Sunday/public holiday timetable. However, there are a few exceptions.

Train

Services will run to a Sunday/public holiday timetable, with no Nightlink services running on Monday morning.

An extra Sunshine Coast line train will leave Gympie North station at 5.47am and arrive at Roma Street station at 8.41am.

The Shorncliffe line will also be affected by track closures. Timetabled rail buses will replace trains.

Ferry

Services will run to a Sunday/public holiday timetable.

Tram

Services will run on a normal weekday timetable.

Post offices

Some post offices may be open depending on local arrangements. Before you head out, make sure to double-check whether you local branch for opening times.

As is usual for state, regional and local public holidays, no local mail or parcel deliveries will take place, including Express post.

The next guaranteed day of delivery for Express Post items posted before closing time on the business day before a public holiday will be the next business day after a public holiday.

Please allow for additional delivery time if you’re sending time-sensitive material around the time of national, state, regional or local public holidays.
