A woman who police said may have died while trying to retrieve a dropped water bottle on a popular Brisbane bikeway has been identified as local resident Kerri Clevens.
Ms Clevens, affectionately known as “Nan Kerri” and “Momma K”, was found by a member of the public on Kedron Brook Bikeway, Lutwyche about 5.40am Monday, March 24.
Family members and friends have since taken to social media to pay tribute to their beloved nanna.
“My Aunty Nancy and my cousin/sister Kerri both have passed over into the Dreamtime and will be sadly missed by myself and the rest of my family,” a close family friend wrote on Facebook.
“I got to say goodbye to my Aunty Nancy but I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to Kerri.
“RIP in the Dreamtime my two beautiful angels.
“I will see you again one day.”
While another family friend wrote: “R.I.P our beautiful sister Kerri Clevens you will always and forever be in our hearts and (in) our mind. Spread your beautiful wings and fly high Sis.”
A GoFundMe has been launched by Ms Clevens’ niece Jacqueline “Jacs” Clevens to “help cover funeral costs and give Aunty Kerri an honourable send off on her next journey to the Dreamtime”.
“Aunty Kerri was a beloved daughter, mother, nanna, sister, aunty and family friend who sadly passed away on the 24th of March 2025,” Jacqueline wrote.
“Aunty Kerri was an incredible person who touched the lives of everyone she met.
“She was always so thoughtful, kind and giving.
“She always had gifts & shared what she had and if she didn’t have it, she would always find a way to get it & give it.
“She will be missed dearly, there (are) no words or time that could ever compensate (for) the love & kindness that woman shared.”
Ms Clevens, who was aged in her 50s, was declared dead at the scene.
“Initial investigations suggest that the woman may have been attempting to retrieve a dropped water bottle when she fell and sustained a fatal injury,” a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
It’s unclear how far she fell or how she was injured.
The woman’s death is being treated as non-suspicious and the police spokeswoman said officers would prepare a report for the coroner.
A makeshift memorial was set up along a railing of the bikeway last week, which was closed while police investigated the incident.
After the woman’s death temporary orange fencing could be seen on both sides of the bikeway.
Brisbane City Council was asked questions on whether the fencing had been broken and or removed, how long the proper fencing had been down and if council would hold an investigation over the incident and whether the fencing/barriers were unsafe.
A Brisbane City Council spokesman said there was a Queensland Police investigation underway and it would not be appropriate to comment.
Ms Clevens’ funeral service will be held at Our Lady Fatima Catholic Church, Acacia Ridge on Wednesday, April 16.
