An indoor skate park is planned for an unused factory in Ipswich, and it is hoped the facility will become the new premises of a longstanding Brisbane business.
Nelsams QLD Pty Ltd has submitted an application to Ipswich City Council to get approval to set up in an industrial site at Blackstone.
It would be operated by RampAttak, which previously operated for 11 years in a similar building in Geebung.
Run by the Larkins family, the business stated its indoor skate park is “closed indefinitely” while it finds a new home and it is currently operating off-site.
“The premises have most recently been used for general industrial purposes by a concrete column mould manufacturer with the premises improved by large factory building, administration building and a small shed,” the application noted.
“The factory is surrounded by extensive, established hardstand areas with access to the premises currently achieved via two existing crossovers to Mary Street.
“The existing factory, administration building, hardstand areas and crossovers are to be retained with the buildings repurposed for the proposed use.
“The previous fertiliser plant is no longer operational on the premises.”
The Swanbank Branch rail line is directly to the north of the 1.5 hectare site, with industrial buildings to the south.
“All skating activities are to be conducted internal to the building with no external activity use areas proposed,” the application noted.
“The facility is to be operated by RampAttak who previously operated for eleven years in an industrial warehouse type building in Geebung, Brisbane.
“The premises in Geebung is no longer operational and a new premises is sought to re-establish the use.
“Due to the nature of the proposed use, which is essentially an indoor skate park requiring large open areas for the activities, a large shed or similar is required to operate in.
“As such the existing factory building on the premises provides an ideal structure to be converted for the proposed use.”
The facility would be used by scooter riders, skateboarders, trick BMX riders and rollerbladers.
It is proposed the Ipswich site would offer four three-hour sessions seven days a week.
A total of 16 carparking spaces are planned for the site.
