WORK has begun on the new adddition to Ipswich DIY battlefield - the $46 million, 14,000 square metre Bunnings Warehouse at Bundamba.

The new Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba will replace the existing Booval Warehouse with all team members moving to the new store.

The new store is expected to need 220 staff with 450 jobs created during construction.

Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba will be on the corner of Agnes and Mining streets, Bundamba - just down from Bundamba train station.

Bunnings chief operating officer Peter Davis said development of Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba was on schedule.

"Construction has recently commenced with local Queensland firm TF Woollam and Son appointed as the builder," Mr Davis said.

"Bunnings expects the new Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba to be complete and open for customers in 2015. Once completed, the new warehouse will have a total area of more than 14,000sqm, comprising of the main store, indoor timber trade sales area and outdoor nursery.

"The development of Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba will also include an indoor playground, cafe, and provide parking for over 380 cars."

Bunnings estimated it would invest $46 million in the development of the site spread over more than two hectares.

"More than 220 team members will be employed at the new Bunnings Warehouse, including continued employment for all the current Booval team," Mr Davis said.

"All team members will be offered strong employment and on-the-job training opportunities. Additionally, approximately 450 jobs will be created through the construction process.

"In line with Bunnings' commitment to sustainability, Bunnings Warehouse Bundamba will implement a number of energy and water-saving design features, including energy efficient lighting and rainwater harvesting tanks."

In March, Masters fired the latest salvo in Ipswich's hardware retail wars, opening a massive home improvement store at Bundamba.

The company said the 10,500-square-metre store on Hoepner Rd - Masters' 12th in Queensland, including another at Springfield Central - would create 110 jobs for local people.

Meanwhile, the massive 15,000 sqm Bunnings Warehouse on Brisbane St, West Ipswich, is in the final stages of construction and is scheduled to open in the middle of the year.
