Australia's leading owner, operator and manager of retirement communities, Aveo Group, has today commenced work on a 20-year project which will deliver the country's largest fully-integrated, age-friendly retirement village and hundreds of new jobs to the emerging city of greater Springfield.

The impressive designs for the $1 billion development, which boasts more than 2,500 dwellings and a range of inclusive community, campus-style facilities, were revealed today at the official start of construction by The Premier of Queensland, The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP.

With the first 66 apartments planned for completion in mid-2017, Aveo Springfield has already been recognised for its outstanding design and innovation, receiving the top accolade as the Most Outstanding Seniors Living Campus Design in Australasia last year*.

Aveo Group CEO Geoff Grady said Aveo Springfield had already set a new standard of excellence and diversity in seniors living and was designed with the long-term needs of retirees in mind.

"We are proud to deliver Australia's largest inter-generational retirement village to the broader Brisbane community and demonstrate our commitment to redefining retirement living for the seniors of today and the future through ongoing innovation and care," Mr Grady said.

"Designed to bring residents and the wider community together through a variety of retail, café and recreational spaces, along with a full range of professional health and wellness facilities, Aveo Springfield will be an integrated, purpose-built environment unlike anything currently available in the retirement living sector.

"This type of innovative seniors' development is a function of our strategy to be Australia's leading pure retirement group."

Located in Springfield Central's Health City and adjacent to the Mater Private Hospital, the full-service retirement village will offer an array of living options including independent living units, medium care healthy living units, dementia-friendly aged care, and respite facilities.

In a first for Aveo, a boutique child care centre will also be incorporated, allowing retirees the opportunity to interact with younger generations and remain connected with their grandchildren and extended family throughout their retirement.

"Research has proven that intergenerational interaction has benefits to both the young and elderly. As part of our commitment to creating a truly diverse, age-friendly community, the world class wellness centre on site will include hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, a medical centre, beauty therapies and other allied health services, with some facilities doubling as tertiary training facilities for local students," Mr Grady said.

Aveo will work closely with Springfield Land Corporation and Mater Springfield to deliver a continuous care retirement community based around the concepts of wellness and interaction by allowing residents to stay connected to their wider community.

Springfield Land Corporation Founder and Chairman, Maha Sinnathamby, said the new retirement concept would fulfil the long-term vision for greater Springfield.

"Seniors' living is a vital component of the world award-winning master plan of Greater Springfield and Aveo is best positioned to fulfil our ambition to have a fully integrated community where health and wellness underpin prosperity along with education and technology."
