A woman has been charged after allegedly holding up a taxi driver in Ipswich at knifepoint before robbing him.

Police will allege the woman ordered a taxi to take her from Leichhardt to Collingwood Park.

During the fare she allegedly threatened the driver with a knife demanding he take her to Richlands.

The driver stopped the taxi and the woman allegedly robbed the driver of $40 and fled on foot at Booval.

The driver was able to alert nearby police.

A woman was arrested without incident a short time later.

Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 24-year-old Leichhardt woman with one count each of armed robbery and deprivation of liberty.

She has been refused police bail and will appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 6.
