Tribute for Toogoolawah teen Madison Jardine, 19, who died in Esk traffic crash

A tight-knit rural town west of Brisbane has come together to share their heartbreak over the loss of a teenager, remembered for her kind heart and “gentle spirit” after her death in a horror crash last night.

Tributes are flowing for 19-year-old Madison Jardine, who will be remembered for her “gentle spirit” after she died in a traffic crash in Esk yesterday, January 3.

The Toogoolawah teenager was driving north on the Brisbane Valley Highway around 5pm, when she and a truck travelling in the opposite direction collided.

Ms Jardine died at the scene, while the truck driver – a 36-year-old Regents Park man – was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Toogoolawah State High School principal Ross Jardine posted a tribute for Madison on the school’s Facebook page.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the passing of Madison Jardine,” Mr Jardine said.

“Madison’s presence at Toogoolawah State High School left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

“Her gentle spirit, kindness, and dedication made her a highly regarded member of our school community.”

Mr Jardine said Madison had graduated year 12 at Toogoolawah State High in 2021.

“As we come to terms with this tragic loss, let us remember and cherish the positive influence she had on the lives of those around her,” she said.

“To Madison’s siblings, who currently attend Toogoolawah State High School, we extend our deepest condolences.

“This is a tragic loss and an incredibly difficult time.”

Many members of the school community extended their condolences in the comments.

“Maddie was a kind hearted girl who looked out for others at school and made them feel included,” said Charlie Lewis.

“I’m so glad my girls got to spend so many years dancing and laughing with you.

“Your kindness and laughter will leave a lasting impression on all that were lucky enough to know you.”

“Your kindness will be remembered by all that knew you,” said another commenter.

“She will definitely be missed.”
