A police officer has faced a southeast Queensland court accused of sexual assault, possessing child pornography, and recording sex with a prostitute without her permission.

The male officer in his 50s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Richlands Magistrates’ Court on May 28 for the matter’s mention.

He stands charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material, one count of sexual assault, and four counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

The Brisbane Magistrates’ Court previously heard at the man’s bail application earlier this year that one of the observation or recordings charges related to the man allegedly filming himself having sex with a prostitute who had not given consent to be recorded.

Police also alleged the man had been found in possession of an SD card containing 30 sexually explicit illustrated images of young children.

They further allege that he had a text-based story saved on his Snapchat account involving a young girl being raped by an adult.

The man was granted bail, after a court heard he had been suspended and stood down until the proceedings are complete.

He attended court in person on March 28, represented by defence lawyer Jaimee Lee Jessop.

Magistrate Stuart Shearer said the man would need to sign a new bail undertaking, which required the man to have no contact with the victims, report to Inala police station, and reside at his address in southeast Queensland.

The matter was adjourned to July 16 for mention.

A police spokesperson said the man was currently still suspended with pay.
