One of three men initially charged with attempted murder over an alleged violent Ipswich bakery robbery has had his most serious charges dropped.

Logan Central dad Kyle John Stuart, 23, was previously charged with two counts of attempted murder in relation to an Ipswich bakery shooting in 2021.

Police allege Mr Stuart, along with co-accused Tyreece Patrick Paton and Matthew James Paton, entered the Bun Me Bakery in Eastern Heights on September 5, 2021, and took off with a sum of cash.

They allege one of the men shot a 40-year-old shop attendant in the back and attempted to shoot another bakery worker.

On April 6, 2023, Crown prosecutor Rachel Stewart told the court the prosecution now offered no evidence against Mr Stuart for the attempted murder charges, and he was formally acquitted of those charges.

Instead, Mr Stuart now stands charged with one count of malicious act with intent to maim, armed robbery in company with wounding and personal violence, and possessing a shortened category H firearm in public.

The court heard Mr Stuart would be taking the new charges, which relate to the same alleged offending on September 5, to trial.

At his committal hand-up on April 6, Ms Stewart tendered a list of 45 witness statements and 60 exhibits that would be used as evidence against Mr Stuart.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne formally committed Mr Stuart for trial in Ipswich District Court.

Mr Stuart made no application for bail and chose not to enter any plea at this stage.

Mr Stuart’s partner and two young children sat in the gallery to see him, and he repeated “I love you” to them as police escorted him out of the courtroom.
