OPINION: Minister in hot seat on council call

THERE'S no doubt many of you have grappled - both in your own minds and among friends and family - with the decision facing Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe.

Going from personal experience, voices on either side of the debate about whether or not to sack council have intensified in recent weeks.

Not surprisingly, feedback received at the QT has ranged from council supporters accusing us of deliberately bringing down the council, to anti-council readers accusing us of being too supportive of the civic representatives.

If nothing else, we might take that as a sign we are at least presenting both sides of the argument.

In today's edition, we present the side of the man in the unenviable position of having to make the call on the council's future.

Regardless of which course of action he ultimately took, Stirling Hinchliffe was always going to cop a barrage of criticism. Perhaps only time will tell if he was right or wrong.
