OUR long-running water problems in Palm Ave in Raceview have been fixed.
There is no longer any water leaking out of the storm water drains and flowing down the road.
Our yards are drying out, and the tension of worrying about our properties has ceased.
The problem was a leak in a neighbouring property which was repaired and the water stopped.
Queensland Urban Utilities said the water drains down through the clay levels and builds up and is more evident in the late afternoon as the road cools down.
When the sun rises, the road heats up and evaporates the wetness on the road.
On July 6, QUU found another property in our area with a severe leak that has now been fixed.
When the leak near our properties was found, QUU turned up with a new electronic listening stick which, when placed on top of the water meters, detected hairline cracks in pipes at other properties in our area.
Each property was notified of the problem.
The property owner had never seen an increase in water usage, and this has been confirmed by QUU.
Our problem was reported to QUU on April 24.
On June 24, we decided to go the media because ICC wouldn't inform us of any investigation.
Once it hit the media, things started to happen and water testing proved it was town water.
I would like to thank our QT reporter, Helen Spelitis for the media coverage. Without it, who knows where we would be today.
Secondly, thanks to the senior advisor in the local government department who helped, for her intervention and follow-ups.
And thirdly, I would like to thank QUU representatives Brett Kaatz, Scott Ireland and Dave Wilson for their customer service and promise not to give up until the problem was fixed. And they didn't give up.
