ASH Barty continues a long line of sporting champs and great role models to have called Ipswich home.

There certainly is something about this area that makes us great for producing champions - both male and female - across a range of sports.

Sublime talent doesn't go to waste in the making of a successful sports person, but neither does character, and having met Barty a while back, I can attest to the fact that Ipswich has been blessed with another humble champ.

She is a person who lets her racquet do the talking and, despite her upward trajectory in the world rankings, does not get around acting like a big shot or a celebrity.

It certainly is a welcome change after having endured the antics of Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios over the past few years.

It seems an unlikely scenario, but perhaps this pair could take a leaf out of Barty's book and become better players in the process?
