Long wait times for healthcare services in Ipswich may soon be reduced, with a new medical precinct earmarked for the region’s biggest community hub.

Yamanto Central will launch a new medical precinct early next year which will house a range of medical and allied health professionals to address Ipswich’s current undersupply of medical practitioners.

JMK Retail general manager Vicki Leavy said the next stage of the shopping centre, a health and wellness precinct, will cater to the region’s population “explosion”.

“Not only is there an immediate undersupply of 22 general practitioners for the catchment, at the current rate of population growth, within five short years this number will escalate to an astonishing 58,” Ms Leavy said.

“Our aim is to see the Yamanto Central health and wellness precinct offer world class services and support our community within a hub of essential services, leading retail outlets and innovative lifestyle offerings.”

Over the next 10 years, demand for services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, dental, occupational therapy, radiology, psychology, speech pathology and naturopathy is expected to increase exponentially in Yamanto Central’s surrounding areas.

As a result, some 277 additional allied health practitioners will be required across the region.

Ms Leavy said the shopping centre’s new health precinct aims to deliver on both the current and emerging needs of the community.

“There are currently four medical suits available for practitioners who are interested in becoming part of the medical and allied health services precinct at Yamanto Central,” she said.

“They range in size and all offer the ability to be customised to meet the needs of operators.”

With anchor tenants Coles and Kmart, 50 specialty stores, a health and wellness precinct, a soon-to-open dining precinct, and now a medical and allied health service precinct, Yamanto Central is poised to be one of Ipswich’s biggest community hubs.

Healthcare providers interested in being part of the new health precinct can speak to Michael Haddrick at Comac Retail Property Group on 03 9998 8001 for more information.
