The owners of an Ipswich family business destroyed in a blaze in June are contemplating their future after the decision was made to demolish the building.

Police have been unable to determine what caused a fire which destroyed an Ipswich takeaway shop two months ago, with the owners deciding to tear the building down.

Five firefighter crews took half an hour to bring the blaze under control on June 17.

Flames engulfed the house adjoining the Poppys Takeaway in Brassall in the early hours of the morning and spread to the takeaway shop.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Previously known as Uncle Bill’s Takeaway, the shop on Pine Mountain Road has undergone numerous name changes over the years and used to have fuel pumps out the front.

The building was demolished on Thursday.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said no charges have been laid in relation to the fire.

“At this stage the cause has been ruled as undetermined,” she said.

Poppys owner Lonnie Brown said he wasn’t sure what was next for him and he was still working out the next step.

He ran the business alongside his son and took over in April last year, leasing the building through a real estate agency.

Mr Brown said the fire had “thrown a spanner in the works” but customers were badgering him about where he would go next.

“To open I’ve got to find a good location and (the owners of the land) they’re not going to build another shop there,” he said.

“I think they’ve got plans for something else.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do at the moment.”

He was considering setting up in a new shopfront or Ipswich or even operate from a van.

“I’ve run into a fair few customers and they’ve bailed me up and asked (what I’m doing next),” Mr Brown said.

“They’ve missed my food and want it again.

“We’ve been talking about reopening or a food van. I just don’t know yet.”
