Lockyer under the hammer but it's 'not a fire sale'

IN WHAT Mayor Tanya Milligan describes as 'getting the house in order', Lockyer Valley Regional Council is selling a number of surplus properties.

Cr Milligan said the decision to sell a selection of properties was not a fire sale.

"We heard often enough during the election campaign that people did not want the council accumulating a property portfolio, and we have listened," she said.

The sale of properties covers land around the Lockyer Valley, with seven blocks at Helidon, Grantham, Glenore Grove and Kensington Grove, along with a storage depot on Woodlands Road at Gatton.

Cr Milligan said the Woodlands Road property was also offered for sale, after being used to store council-owned dongas.

"This is about the council doing what is responsible, and focusing on our core business," Cr Milligan said.

Clint Christison, principal of Ray White Rural Gatton, said the properties would be sold by tender and auction, and he would be working just as hard as for any other client to achieve a good result.

"Our client has been fantastic; they have responded quickly with every request and recommendation we have made," he said.

"When it comes to taking these properties to tender and auction, we will be working to achieve the best possible result."

Mr Christison said as a resident and a ratepayer, he had a vested interest in ensuring the best possible result.

"This is where I live; I want the council to have a good result on this sale process," he said.

Cr Milligan said if the sale was a success we will have another go in 12 months.

The auction is Thursday, June 16 at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre.
