Behind the scenes: A look into the wild world of SEQ sex clubs

They are the clubs so exclusive many don’t know they even exist.

Sex clubs across southeast Queensland, championing the swinger lifestyle, are shrouded in mystery for those who have never considered it before.

We take a look into what it takes to be a visitor, or even a member, at southeast Queensland sex clubs.

Owners of these clubs are quick to stress that there is a distinct difference between these clubs and brothels, strip clubs and BDSM venues, but with that being said, there are still costs involved to participate and while every club is different, there are some similarities.

Southeast Queensland is home to four dedicated swingers venues: Mike’s Place in Slacks Creek, Chateau Vino in the Gold Coast, Club 86 in Ipswich and Taboo 22 in Logan.

Here’s what’s required to take part:

Mike’s Place

Marketed as the “classiest and only licensed swingers club in Brisbane”, Mike’s Place in Slacks Creek offers a space for those interested in the lifestyle to let loose, relax and explore their deepest desires.

Mike’s Place, unlike some other venues, doesn’t operate on a membership basis. Guests pay per visit, but some guests are required to pay an annual fee and book ahead of time.

On a Friday night, single women, single men and couples are welcomed to the club, but single men are encouraged to book ahead as there are limits to the number allowed in the venue, so as not to overwhelm the women and couples.

Single men are not welcome at the venue on a Saturday night.

Couples are charged $60 on Friday nights, and $70 on Saturdays, while single women are charged only $30 on either night.

As a general rule, the majority of couples and singles are looking to connect and play with single women and the entry fee reflects the venues desire to encourage their attendance.

Single men on the other hand, are required to pay an annual fee of $100, as well as a nightly entry fee of $80 on Friday nights.

Chateau Vino on the Gold Coast marked its 11th year in operation in 2022 and is in demand as a one-stop destination for swingers.

Boasting of its Queensland-first “orgy room” and spaces dedicated to light BDSM play, Chateau Vino caters to a wide range of tastes.

Similarly to Mike’s Place, the venue only operates on Friday and Saturday nights, and only welcomes single men on Fridays and at specific events on Saturdays, however they do offer both membership options and a door fee.

Membership is an annual $40 fee, but this means that members get reduced entry and other benefits.

Couples who are members are charged $60 or $80 on Fridays and Saturdays respectively. Non-member couples are charged $100 on either night.

Single women with a membership have free entry while non-members are $20 on either night.

Single men are not required to book on a Friday nights but are charged $100 for members, and $120 for non-members.

Voracious Vixens events are the only time single men are allowed on a Saturday night, and will cost them a weighty $150 for non-member or $140 for members.

Taboo 22 in Loganholme’s pricing is simple.

Marketing themselves as “Brisbane’s friendliest swinger’s club”, Taboo 22 is run by husband and wife duo, Lindy and Phil.

The club is open on Friday and Saturday nights, but has no restrictions for single men, other than encouraging them to book ahead of time.

Couples pay a fee of $65, single males are charged $75 and single women are capped at $25.

Whilst there are no membership options, frequent flyers are given a loyalty card to be stamped at each visit.

Ipswich’s Club 86 operates on a membership only system (bar a few exceptions), with many different options available depending on a guest’s needs. They are open from Thursday through Sunday.

There are “standard” and “diamond” and “ultimate diamond” membership options available for couples, single women and single men.

The standard membership is $75, $40 and $40 for couples, single women and men respectively.

This is an annual fee which allows guests access to events and priority booking.

The diamond membership is a quarterly fee which allows guests unlimited entry on regular nights, discounted special event access and a permanent locker key to take home.

Couples and single men are charged $400 and single women are charged $250 for this option.

Finally, the ultimate diamond membership is the same as the diamond membership, but charged annually at a cost of $1600 for couples and single men and $1000 for single women.
