Ipswich’s top five hairdressers and winner revealed

Thousands of dedicated hair clients flooded our social media to nominate their favourite salons in the region, but one salon has won by a landslide. Check out the top salons and who was crowned Ippy’s best.

In fifth place is Hm Hair in Ipswich. Owned by experienced stylist Holly Dickens and her partner Aaron, Hm hair salon was described in nominations as the place to go.

Their social media reviews detail their beautiful work with many clients saying they would never go anywhere else.

4. MJ’s Yamanto

MJ’s Hair Beauty Barber in Yamanto describe themselves as Ipswich’s blonde hair specialist and it’s not hard to see why.

Their social media is a wash of beautiful blondes along with some super fresh men's cuts.

The team were awarded an Ipswich Chamber of Commerce small business award in 2016 and have previously been voted one of Ippy’s best.

3. Peak-a-Do Hair and Beauty

Hundreds of nominations poured in for the team at Peak-a-Do Hair and Beauty, with many of those specifically for experienced stylist Kerri Truloff.

The Queensland Times spoke to owner Shelley Gehrke, who is currently on maternity leave, about the salon.

What started as a small business in Peak Crossing, gradually bloomed into the popular salon on Warwick Rd by the time Ms Truloff joined the team.

Boasting an impressive 35 years plus of experience, Ms Truloff has taken on Peak-a-Do while Ms Gehrke enjoys time with her family.

“I cannot stress enough how important Kerri Truloff has been to the continuing success of the business with taking the reins in my absence,” Ms Gehrke said.

“I am so so so very grateful.”

Joining Ms Truloff at the salon are several other incredibly talented stylists who have contributed to the success of the salon.

“We pride ourselves on treating clients not just as clients but as friends and know how important feeling good is,” Ms Gehrke said.

“I am proud that I have been able to offer a safe and happy workplace for staff to grow and service their clients.”

2. Luke Gregory Hair

Runner-up Luke Gregory Hair was another salon that was nominated hundreds of times, with clients gushing over his care and service of them.

Many described having seen Mr Gregory since he started in the industry 27 years ago and claimed they had never seeing another stylist, even though he only branched out on his own last year.

Mr Gregory credited his success to his personal approach to his career and the way he treats all clients as people and not as numbers.

“When I went out and opened my own salon my goal was to ensure that every client felt like they were listened to, treated respectfully with no judgment and also have a fun time in the salon,” Mr Gregory said.

“It’s a very humbling feeling seeing your dream begin to unfold and that people see it with you and feel the same thing.”

“It makes me and my teammates very proud to be in this industry and have the opportunity to touch peoples lives and make them feel special.

The winner of Ipswich’s best salon was Lily Me Red in West Ipswich.

Shannon McPhee, owner of Lily Me Red, has taken her business from strength to strength in its 13 years in business.

With five staff and a brand new salon opened up in the Gold Coast, along with their flagship in West Ipswich, Lily Me Red, prides themselves on specialising in “lived-in looks, lifestyle-friendly colouring and on trend foiling techniques.”

“I have been in the industry for over 28 years now and love seeing my apprentices achieve their goals,” Ms McPhee said.

“Collectively throughout our salons I believe in education and passing on my knowledge to my team in any way I can.”

“We love Ipswich and our beautiful friendly clients and now with our new salon, we hope to stamp our passion for hair on the Gold Coast as well.”

Ms McPhee said they team would be partnering with Ipswich’s Best Lash Tech 2023, Kasey Dixon as she begins work in their new Gold Coast salon.

“None of this would be possible with out my wonderful team of hard working ladies that keep me on my toes and make me so proud everyday.”
