Beers poured over heads and the desperate flapping of fans were not unusual sights this weekend as the largest international country music festival in Australia kicked off.
Hosted at Willowbank Raceway, west of Ipswich, the CMC Rocks Queensland 2023 opened its gates to campers on Wednesday, but Friday marked the official first day of the major event — which is set to welcome 23000 people to the region.

We asked our readers to vote on their favourite outfits from the weekend and vote for best dressed and best dressed duo of the festival.
Now, we have tallied the votes and crowned our winners- matching fits were clearly the name of the game!
FIRST PLACE- BEST DRESSED
Winning by a landslide, this matching herd of best ‘moo-tes’ wiped out the competition for best dressed of CMC Rocks.
SECOND PLACE
These blue beauties took out second place, well matched in their collared work shirts and cut-off shorts.
THIRD PLACE
In third place, adorned in their matching button-ups these bright buds bought delight to all in their path.
FIRST PLACE- BEST DRESSED DUOS
Draped in sequins, satin and lace, these stunners dazzled voters with their classically classy festival attire, taking out first place for best dressed duos.
SECOND PLACE
Sibling runners up Tane and Cara kept cool and cute in their modern bohemian inspired fits.
THIRD PLACE
In third place, Brendan Walsh and Melissa Patterson in their top to toe matching ensembles kept themselves safe from the scorching sun that hit as a heatwave struck the festival.
The event was headlined by three major international artists: Zac Brown Band, Kip Moore and crowd favourite Morgan Wallen, with the Tailgate Stage hosting many other international and local artists.
The sunshine state has most certainly welcomed them, as a heatwave rolled in across the state and temperatures at the grounds skyrocketed to nearly 38 degrees leaving festival-goers sweating in their boots, with ‘its bloody hot’ an oft heard phrase.
Tales were shared far and wide of last year’s event, which was smashed by a deluge of rain on the Friday, with many secretly hoping for the same today — though many simply took advantage of the misting tent and a good cold beer.
The sweltering conditions did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who had religiously planned their outfits in advance, ranging from drop-dead gorgeous to purely outrageous — festival-goers donned their best to beat the heat.
We put a call-out for the best dressed cowboys, cowgirls and duos and were greeted with some incredible ‘fits.
